If your GP or nurse carries out a test, such as a smear test or blood test, you will be contacted by the practice if there is a need for you to know the result. In general, this means that you will be contacted if there is an abnormality. It is important that you are aware of the arrangements for results when you have the test done.
If you have not heard from us within two weeks you may ring and select Option 2 between 2.00 pm and 6.00 pm to see if the results have been received. Please note that smear results can take much longer, and you should contact the nurses for advice if you are concerned. If the result if normal the Doctor will have made an entry in your notes to enable the Receptionist to confirm this with you. Please note, the Receptionists are unable to provide you with any clinical information in respect of results.
If you are asked to bring back samples (for example urine or stools), please make sure they are carefully labelled with the following:
- Date of birth
- Date of sample
It is in your best interest to bring in samples before 12 noon, in time for the hospital collection service.
Please place samples containers in the collection bin in the Reception.
