High quality modern medicine is becoming increasingly technical, involving a primary care team of doctors and other health professionals and relying on the availability of investigations and equipment. Most of this cannot be easily provided at home. It is important and in your own interest that a home visit is requested only if you are too ill to travel to the surgery.
You have the right to ask for medical advice from a GP at any time, but it is up to your doctor to decide if a home visit is the best option.
Should a home visit be necessary, please request this if possible before 10.30am to enable the doctors to efficiently plan their visiting circuits. When you phone, be prepared to describe your problems to the Receptionist; this will help the Doctor to decide whether the best possible care can be provided by a home visit. Please remember that it takes much longer to see you at home. Your doctors can see several people at the surgery in the time it takes to drive to a patient’s home. Nevertheless, we will strive to provide an efficient visiting service if this is appropriate for your care.
