Flu vaccinations Posted on 13 Sep 2018

Please support your local GP Practice by having your flu vaccination with us (available to Lowther Medical Centre registered patients only).  Our Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistant have pre-bookable appointments for flu vaccinations.  Please contact Reception to book an appointment

NHS England have issued advice that 2 vaccinations should be offered for adults, 

- Adjuvanted trivalent vaccine for all adults aged 65+                                                           

- Quadrivalent vaccine for those at risk aged 18-65  - Please see at risk categories detailed below:

· Have certain medical conditions such as chronic respiratory, heart, kidney, liver, neurological disease inc stroke, TIA, Parkinsons, MS, cerebral palsy,  hereditary or degenerative conditions, diabetes, weakend immune system

· Seriously overweight—BMI of 40 or above

· Pregnant 

· Are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility 

· Receive a carer's allowance, or you are the main Carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill 

· Health and social care staff

The flu vaccine is also free on the NHS for children as listed below:

· Children aged 6 months to 17 years with a long-term health condition  (Note: 6 mths to 2 years = injection and 2 years to 17 years = nasal spray)

· Children aged 2 and 3 on August 31 2018 – that is, born between September 1st 2014 and August 31st 2016 (nasal spray)

· Children in reception class and school years 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (nasal spray)  (Note:  Vaccinations will be provided in school)
